Central region of Tamil Nadu sees marked increase in COVID-19 cases

Ariyalur district, which had reported a low number of cases, recorded 11 new cases on Friday, while Perambalur recorded one.

The central region reported a marked increase in COVID-19 cases with 409 patients testing positive on Friday. Tiruchi recorded a peak with 122 patients testing positive. Thanjavur also continued the upward trend with 120 cases.

One death has been reported in the area – in Tiruchi, according to a bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Of the 122 patients who tested positive in Tiruchi, small clusters have been identified, health officials here said. “Employees of a computer company near Central Bus Stand, and some localities where a few cases have been reported in the same localities have been identified. We define clusters as more than three instances in a specified location to control the spread,” he said. Also in Thanjavur, 120 patients have tested positive.

A total of 69 patients tested positive in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam, 56. In Pudukottai, 18 new cases were reported and in Karur, 12. Ariyalur district, which had reported low number of cases, recorded 11 new cases on Friday, while Perambalur recorded one.
