Central Region New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Joseph Kobina Essibu has denied any involvement in the issues that led to the regional delegates’ conference’s injunction to elect regional executives.
According to him, no amount of distracting and vile propaganda will change his goal, and the trust placed in him by the party base to lead them in the region.
Some NPP members obtained an injunction from the Cape Coast High Court on Wednesday May 25 to prevent the party from holding its delegates conference scheduled for Friday May 27 in Dunkwa-on-Offin.
According to the court, claimants Edward Armah, Ransford Bosomtwe, Albert Ackon, Razak Nurudeen and Mohammed Iddrisu insisted that the outgoing President of the Central Region, Mr. Robert Kingsford Kutin Jnr. and other members of the electoral committee failed to fulfill their responsibilities to ensure that an election was held in Ekumfi constituency.
Moreover, the Plaintiffs wanted an interlocutory injunction prohibiting the Defendants, their agents or assigns, any individual or group of persons whose legitimacy emanates from any regional election organized by the Defendants and also to consider themselves as central regional cadres of the NPP .
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Mr Yaw Adomako Baafi, spokesperson for Dr Essibu’s campaign team, said: “The actions leading to the postponement of the central regional NPP election can in no way cases be attributed to Dr Essibu who, by all indications, was going to win the on-off elections scheduled in Dunkwa”.
“It wouldn’t have been a wise move to cut off his nose to spite his face. It’s actually below the belt. Clear desperation from the opposing side,” he noted.
Setting the record straight, Mr. Baafi explained that the action had been initiated by some aggrieved persons in the
Ekumfi Constituency which, after unsuccessfully exploring all internal dispute resolution mechanisms, went to the Cape Coast High Court as a last resort for justice.
This was after constituency elections in the region were conducted without Ekumfi constituency, rendering the people of Ekumfi, without party leaders.
Mr. Baafi indicated that Dr. Essibu has diligently carried out his campaign to the admiration of all the supporters in the region who have pledged heaven and earth to crown him the next NPP president in the region.
He described Dr Essibu as a man endowed with a unifying spirit by many supporters who believed his leadership skills would promote party unity and subsequent victory for 2024 to break the Eight.
