BEAUMONT — West Orange-Stark product Jack Dallas continues to rack up the honors after finishing a terrific run in a Lamar Cardinals baseball uniform.
Dallas Cardinals senior pitchers and Adam Wheaton have been named 2022 ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region, ABCA officials announced.
Dallas and Wheaton helped the Cardinals reach their best record since 2013 – a year that saw the Cardinals win 37 games and advance to the winners’ bracket of the WAC Baseball Championships.
A five-year letter winner, Dallas has been a mainstay of the Cardinals’ program for the past five seasons. The Orange native took over the Cardinals’ closest role ahead of the 2021 season and never looked back, setting the LU season record as a junior. Dallas didn’t add to those honors until 2022, setting a new single-season saves record while becoming the school’s all-time leader in saves and appearances.
Dallas finished the year 4-1 (.800) with a 1.94 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, while leading the Western Athletic Conference with 14 saves. He struck out 55 (for just 14 bases) in 41.2 innings pitched. Dallas closed out the season earning first-team All-WAC honors.
While Dallas was a five-year winner for the Red and Whites, Wheaton took a different route to the Golden Triangle, arriving by transfer for his senior season. A second-team All-WAC selection, Wheaton took over the starting role for the Cardinals on Saturday and went on to lead the conference in wins (10) and ERA (2.79), with a WHIP of 1.25.
Wheaton also struck out 66 in 84 innings pitched. Wheaton also recorded three starts where he didn’t allow an earned run and two others where he allowed just one run to score.
Big Red finished the year 37-21 (.638) and 20-10 (.667) in the league, one game off the pace of the WAC Division title. The Cardinals finished the year with 10 series wins, including four series sweeps.
