Arkansas received two accolades in the South Central region in cross country, the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday. Amon Kemboi received the Athlete of the Year award while Razorback Head Coach Chris Bucknam received the Coach of the Year award.

The 2020 cross country season wrapped up Monday with the NCAA Championships being held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as Arkansas finished fourth in the team standings. Kemboi led the team, placing 11and to earn All-America honors.

This is the ninth time Bucknam has been honored as South Central Region Coach of the Year. The Razorbacks produced their best team result in national championship competition since a second-place finish in 2005 and won the SEC championship last October. No regional meetings have taken place this season.

A split cross-country season, with fall and spring sessions, meant the NCAA Championship was held in March, the Monday after Arkansas hosted the NCAA Indoor Championships. Four Razorbacks, including Kemboi, have competed in both national championships.

Kemboi, who posted a time of 30:14.2 over the 10,000m course, is the first Razorback to claim the athlete honor since Stanley Kebenei in 2014 and is the ninth time a runner of Arkansas has received this honor since 1998.
