Man seized by Central Region Police for alleged robbery


Central Regional Police Command arrested a 19-year-old boy for an alleged attack in Gomoa Amanda.

The suspect, Godwin Quarahie and his accomplice (now at large) allegedly poured a potent pepper-like substance into the eyes of an Okada driver, beat him and stole his motorbike.

The suspect along with an accomplice on Sunday, April 25, around 4:00 p.m., boarded an Okada from Gomoa Dasum to Gomoa Akotsi.

Arriving at Akotsi near the Gomoa Kwanyako road, they poured a powdery substance like pepper into the eyes of the biker Okada, beat him and took the motorbike away.

A press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, the Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) and copied to the GNA in Cape Coast said.

DSP Oppong said the biker from Okada raised the alarm and with the help of some bikers and youths from the surrounding villages, arrested the suspect but his accomplice managed to get away.

The youth, the statement said, subjected the suspect to severe beatings and was about to lynch him, but for the timely intervention of an Okoto, a liquor store operator in the area, who saved him .

The Police PRO said that upon receiving the report, police attended the crime scene where a crowd of around 150 people, holding rocks, pieces of wood and looking very aggressive , shouted for the suspect to be lynched.

The police managed to rescue the suspect with the help of reinforcements and in the aftermath, a police officer was injured by an object thrown at him.

The motorcycle could not be recovered, but the investigation was ongoing.
