Mega vaccination campaign in the central region

The 28th COVID-19 mega vaccination campaign was held in central districts on Saturday.

At Tiruchi Corporation, Covishield, Covaxin and Corbevax jabs (12-14 years) have been made available in at least 370 locations, including public schools, institutions and mobile camps. According to a press release issued Friday by collector S. Sivarasu, a total of 21,86,100 people over the age of 18 have been vaccinated. Of this total, 20,09,390 first doses, 16,85,463 second doses and 922 booster doses were administered in Tiruchi district.

In Karur, Power Minister V. Senthil Balaji and Collector T. Prabhushankar chaired a vaccination camp at CSI Boys Higher Secondary School. The district saw camps organized in 550 locations. At least 550 nurses, 1,100 anganwadi and midday meal program workers and 550 self-help group members and public school teachers have been recruited to help with the camps.

Ariyalur Collector, P. Ramana Saraswathi presided over the vaccination camps on behalf of the Ariyalur Panchayat Union Public Health and Immunization Department at Valajanagaram Panchayat College and presented certificates to students who have received their doses.

Doses were administered at 39 primary health centers, one medical teaching hospital, one district headquarters hospital, two government hospitals and 320 special camps spread over 379 sites in Ariyalur. In her interaction with the audience, Ms. Ramana Saraswathi also insisted on maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Perambalur Collector Sri Venkada Priya and other district officials presided over vaccination camps held at Sangupettai Anganwadi Center, Senjeri Anganwadi, Aranarai Center and Palayam. The vaccination was administered by the 29 primary health centers, four district government hospitals and 367 special camps in the district.

According to an official statement, 30,000 people were to be vaccinated in Perambalur district on Saturday. At least 90% of children in the 12-14 age group had received the first dose of Corbevax, while 75% had received their second dose. At least 48% of the population had received the booster dose.

An official statement said 22,254 people were vaccinated in the district on Saturday. In Alathur block, 2,060 people were vaccinated, followed by 7,223 in Perambalur, 6,911 in Veppanthattai and 6,050 in Veppur.
