NSMQ 2022: Salute to ADISCO for Emerging Central Region Champions

The 2022 National Science and Mathematics Quiz Central Regional Qualifiers concluded successfully on Thursday, May 5.

Four great schools competed – Adisadel College, St Augustine’s College, Ghana National College and University Practice SHS. They gave a wonderful performance.

At the end of the first round, Adisadel College and St Augustine’s College led the race with 22 points each, while Ghana National College and University Practice SHS followed with 21 points each.

Round 2, which is the sprint race, distinguished the men from the boys. Interestingly, Adisadel College (ADISCO) and St Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) finished the round tied.

Not ready to give up the top position, the two schools earned 31 points each. It was a different story for University Practice SHS and Ghana National College.

University Practice SHS added three points to their previous score, but Ghana National College suffered a few deductions in the round, leaving them with 19 points.

Those hoping for another third-round tie were disappointed as ADISCO took the lead this time around.

With 44 points, Adisadel College secured a comfortable leading position. Not far away though was AUGUSCO, not crossing the 40 point threshold but close enough to give ADISCO some trouble.

In Lap 3, University Practice SHS put on a spectacular show and were four points behind AUGUSCO to take second place. The National College of Ghana was in a difficult position.

The final trick to change his fortunes was finally here. The puzzles were posed and each time, Adisadel College was there to do justice. St Augustine’s College struggled to keep pace but managed to find itself a conundrum.

ADISCO is to be hailed as suggested in the school anthem because at the end of it all, Adisadel College turned out to be the best school – winning the Central Regional Qualifiers final with 52 points.

In 2021, ADISCO was deprived of this sweet victory. Mfantsipim School made sure of that when they beat former champion, University Practice SHS and Assin State College, to be crowned Central Region champions.

This year, Mfantsipim (Botwe) failed to defend his title. The National College of Ghana deprived the school of this chance.

Botwe’s defeat was excruciating as a single point prevented the school from advancing to the regional final.

Before the final

Adisadel College defeated Swedru SHS, Apam SHS and Eguafo Abrem SHS to secure a spot in the finals.

TI AMASS, Potin, Boa Ampponsem SHS and Aggrey Memorial SHS have been expelled by St Augustine’s College.

In order for University Practice SHS to advance to the finals, Assin State College, Holy Child School, and Wesley Girls’ High School had to be eliminated.
