OPP Central Region lay over 1,600 charges over Labor Day long weekend

The Labor Day long weekend safety initiative kept officers busy across Central Region on the roads, trails and waterways patrolled by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

During this initiative, officers conducted targeted enforcement activities focusing on speeding, seat belt use, distracted driving and impaired driving. As a result, a total of 1634 charges were laid.

Labor Day Long Weekend Central Region Breakdown:


Speeding Charge – 944

Seat belt fee – 134

Distracted driving charges – 23

Impaired driving charges – 24

Stunt/race fee – 26

LLCA Fees (Liquor License Control Act – Traffic Related) – 14

CAA Fees (Cannabis Control Act – Traffic Related) – 7

CAIA (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act) – 83

ORVA (Off-Road Vehicle Act) Fees – 3

CSA-SVR (Canada Shipping Act – Small Vessel Regulations) – 26

Other Criminal Code trafficking charges – 6

Other provincial traffic charges – 344

Excessive speed and dangerous driving continue to threaten the safety of all road users.

With students of all ages returning to school this week, it’s important to remember that there is no excuse for risky driving behavior on our roads when lives are at stake.

Please slow down, drive with caution and courtesy, and report dangerous drivers to the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
