Tencent Cloud Showcases Smart Tourism Solutions in Central Japan

HONG KONG, February 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Tencent Cloud announced today the launch of its joint project with the Central Japan International Airport Promotion Council and Mitsui & Co.,Ltd. build a one-stop smart tourism solution that aims to promote the recovery of tourism in Nagoya and other cities in the central region of Japan (Chubu). The collaboration aims to help Japan local businesses and tourism initiatives to reach travelers from China and around the world, in preparation for the post-pandemic era.

China is considered one of the main contributors to Japanese tourism, with Japan welcoming around 9.6 million Chinese tourists in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit[1]. Despite the significant decline in 2020 due to global restriction measures, travelers from China were recorded as being the most numerous among from Japan foreign visitors that year, about 1.1 million tourists from the mainland, which demonstrates the need for a revival of Japanese tourism aimed at Chinese tourists.

Supported by Tencent Innovative cloud technologies, such as provided by the one-stop smart tourism solution, the Central Japan The International Airport Promotion Board and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. launched a mini Weixin program to better connect with inbound travelers through travel and culture content recommendations such as suggested itineraries and destinations. attractions, shopping and food information as well as calendars of festivities in Nagoya and the Chubu region.

Leveraging the Weixin and WeChat user base of over 1.2 billion monthly active users, Tencent Cloud’s robust technology platform and strong digital marketing service capabilities, the one-stop smart tourism solution includes a variety of functions, including translation services, tax refund, tourist map, access to emergency information, in addition to the itinerary, the attraction and the gastronomic discovery. Chinese visitors can easily explore the Chubu area on a return Weixin mini program by Tencent Cloud.
