The Minister of Roads visits bridges in the Center region

Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Attah has started visiting bridges and roads in parts of the central region.

This visit follows the collapse of some bridges in the area due to a series of floods.

Over the weekend part of the bridge linking Cape Coast to Twifo Praso collapsed leaving many motorists stranded.

Videos and photos seen by Myjoyonline.com show that a section of the road has completely collapsed.

In an interview with JoyNews‘ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, locals said part of the bridge collapsed because a river known as the Surowi overflowed.

The bridge is known to serve motorists from Cape Coast to Jukwa and also from Dunkwa-On-Offin.

Visiting the regions, the minister said the broken bridge has been temporarily repaired.

He noted, however, that a team of engineers has been put in place to critically assess the situation and provide a lasting remedy.

“There is a temporary restoration of the road, that’s why I came here with all my engineers from Accra. All the heads of the Agencies are there and it’s not because I want to come here with a huge entourage, but the engineering work requires professionals who work together to find the best solution.

“You [journalists] can attest to that they have been around asking questions, assessing the situation so that when we return they will be able to advise the government to implement,” he said.

The Minister also gave the assurance that the government will see to the establishment and completion of a durable bridge.
