The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has identified areas and places in the central region that record most road accidents in the region and wants drivers to be extremely careful when driving along these. places.
The Authority says that despite several measures put in place to reduce accidents, road accidents continue to occur, killing many lives and injuring many people in the process.
The Central Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority, Linda Afotey Annan, announces the joy, even as the number of lives lost on the road and the number of injured have decreased this year compared to last year, l he year was marked by an increase in the number of accidents, in particular, on the Cape Coast-Accra highway.
It is this part of the year that the country’s roads become busier than normal. Traffic is even getting heavy on the Cape Coast – Winneba – Accra highway.
The Authority has looked into what happened in 2021. The Authority said the accidents recorded in 2021 were higher than those recorded in 2020 and gave them cause for concern.
The central regional director of the National Road Safety Authority, Linda Afotey Annan, said the authority had identified places in the region that represent the high number of accidents.
She said: “Around Winneba, Apam, Esuenyia, Yamoransa and then we have the areas of Komenda. The majority of the places I mentioned are on the N1 stretch. And that’s why we say that the N1 is a place we have to focus on because we have a lot of falls there. Indeed, the road is very good and the tendency of vehicles to accelerate is high. “
She warned: “It’s the speed that makes us undertake unjustified overtaking, that makes the impact of accidents heavier and that makes us unable to control the situation when the unexpected happens. “
Linda Afotey Annan then discussed the number of crashes and the number of fatalities and injuries that have been recorded this year and called on drivers to be extremely careful on the road.
“We found that the reported cases had increased by 7.4%. When you look at the number of commercial vehicles involved in crashes, there has been a 13.8% increase. In addition, private vehicles saw an increase of 5.4%. You also realize that there has been an increase in the number of vehicles involved in crashes. Overall, there was a 3.8% increase in the number of vehicles involved in crashes. In general, there has been a decrease in the number of victims, both dead and injured, ”she stressed.
Mrs. Afotey Annan has convinced the drivers who ply the road this Christmas season to be extra careful and realize that the lives they carry are very precious not only to their families, but to the whole nation.
